Domenico Barra is an Italian artist, educator and visual content creator working in the field of digital art and dirty new media. The critical, tactical and analytical approach to new technologies takes shape in an artistic production that exploits the “glitch” as raw material for artistic creations but also as the narrative line and poetic to address metaphorically different topics such as privacy, body, memory, identity and communication.
Databending is his preferred glitch art technique for working, consisting of altering the data saved within digital file formats aiming to create glitch artefacts.
This choice is also supported by the belief that our online identity is the results of everyday data alteration that shape our online presence while we chase algorithms and updates on an emotional scrollacoaster. His works have been featured on various sites and magazines, and were exhibited internationally at the DAM Gallery in Berlin, at the Media Center in New York, at Galerie Charlot in Paris, Taipei Digital Art Center and in Italy at the Link Art Center, online at the Wrong Biennale.
